Snatam Kaur and her Celebrate Peace Band will perform at the Sondheim Center on Friday, July 24. Those who attended last year’s concert will remember Snatam’s soaring vocals embellished by the surging guitar riffs of GuruGanesha Singh.
But there’s more. This time Snatam is bringing another star of Indian classical and world music–talented multi-instrumentalist and singer Manish Vyas. Plus Tanmayo, a gifted female artist from Scotland on keyboards, violin and vocals.
Snatam Kaur creates her own contemporary compositions based on traditional devotional chants, giving them a sound that is totally fresh and new. Over 50,000 of her albums are sold each year. They’ve topped the New Age Retailer’s Top 20 list every year since 2004, and she’s the only artist to have three albums in the Top 20 in a single year.

Snatam has just completed a new album, Liberation’s Door. On the title track, Snatam’s voice is soft and jazzy, interwoven with flute, saxophone, tabla, and vocals by Manish Vyas. The song €œMother’s Blessing€ is in Spanish, a heartfelt yearning ballad that will stay with you for a long, long time.
Manish Vyas began playing the tabla when he was nine. Next he learned the santoor, a 100-stringed instrument, then moved on to vocals, harmonium and keyboards. Manish collaborated with fusion master Prem Joshua for 15 years, culminating in the amazing album Water Down the Ganges.
Snatam Kaur and GuruGanesha Singh perform at over 100 venues each year, traveling across the U.S and throughout Europe, Asia, South America, and the South Pacific.
€œSnatam and I had a very beautiful and blissful experience in Fairfield,€ says GuruGanesha, €œand we’re looking forward to being with you again.€
Snatam Kaur will perform at the Sondheim Center for Performing Arts at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 24. Tickets are available at the box office, and at www.iowatix.com.
